Jeddah, November 7th, 2023 – Executive Director of the Women Development Organization (WDO), H.E. Dr. Afnan Alshuaiby, met Tuesday with the Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender and Family of Burkina Faso, H.E.Nandy Somé-Diallo, on the sidelines of the Women in Islam Conference in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The meeting saw the two parties exploring ways in which the organization can work with the government of Burkina Faso to elevate the status of women and girls.
Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender and Family highlighted that Burkina Faso is interested in working on projects that tackle Violence Against Women (VAW). This includes offering psychosocial support to women who face violence and abuse. The meeting also touched on the possibility of creating production kits to ensure that women in displacement still have access to a sustainable way of earning a living.
In a similar manner, the Executive Director and the Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender, and Family discussed the importance of ensuring that girls in times of crisis still have access to proper education. This led the meeting to tackle potential capacity-building programs for young girls and for women.
