June 2023, Cairo, WDO, led by its Executive Director, Dr. Afnan Alshuaiby, participated in the Second Ministerial Conference on Social Development in the OIC Member States that was under the theme of Social Justice and Social Security. The conference took place in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, on the 5th and 6th of June, 2023.
Delegations representing 40 OIC Member States participated in the conference, in addition to representatives of the OIC General Secretariat, subsidiary organs, specialized institutions, and representatives of United Nations agencies and relevant international and regional organizations.
“Social justice is a theme that comes at the core of WDO’s work to promote and enhance the well-being of women and girls in all sectors of life. WDO is concerned with everything necessary to promote, protect and advance women’s rights and develop capacities, skills, and competencies of women and girls in the member states, through bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact while merging and building on the important work of different entities and agencies of OIC which worked previously on gender equality and women empowerment,” stated Dr. Alshuainy in her statement during the conference.
WDO’s Executive Director conducted a brief meeting on the sidelines of the conference with H.E. Nivine El-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in which they discussed potential areas of collaboration between the ministry and WDO.
